Termites in Houston are not a plumbing problem — they are a soil contact problem. Warm, moist ground and wood mulch around your foundation are exactly what subterranean termites want, and a home built in the 1990s or later in a new Cypress or Katy subdivision often sits on a slab with very little clearance. The damage they do is slow, hidden, and expensive by the time you see it.

What a termite inspection actually involves

A real termite inspection means putting a probe or sounding device on every accessible wood member, checking the slab edge, examining all visible mud tubes, and looking at the attic and crawlspace where present. It also means moisture readings around the perimeter. Moisture is the driver — if we find and fix the moisture, the colony goes away. If we only pour chemicals and leave the drainage, you will be back in two years.

Liquid barrier vs bait stations

A liquid barrier treatment creates a treated zone in the soil around your foundation, blocking the underground tunnels termites use to reach the structure. It is the standard treatment for an active, established infestation. Bait stations are installed above ground, termites carry the bait back to the colony, and the colony stops feeding and dies — the right choice when the colony is large and hard to reach, or when the termite species is one that does not tunnel through soil the same way. Some properties need both.

Damage repair

We do not do structural carpentry, but we document every damaged area we find with photos, mark the areas on a diagram of your home, and provide that documentation to your contractor or insurer. Most termite policies require the treatment record, and that documentation is what gets the repair approved.

Questions

Termite Control — common questions

Look for: mud tubes along the slab edge or foundation, wings near windows and light fixtures, damaged skirting boards that are hollow when tapped, and bubbling or buckling paint on trim. The one thing not to do is knock on the wood — it can split sound-treated timber and make a real problem look worse than it is.

A liquid barrier is warrantied annually and typically holds for 3-5 years depending on soil moisture and how the property drains. Annual inspections are included so we catch any new activity before it becomes damage.

Most homeowners policies exclude termites, and separate policies exist for them. If you do carry a termite policy, tell us at booking — we document the treatment in the format your provider requires.

Yes, if you are in a high-pressure area. New construction near active colonies, or on a slab with minimal clearance in the Katy and Cypress corridor, is exactly where we see the most first-year infestations.
