A mouse in the pantry is an annoyance. A rat in the attic is a structural problem. Houston homes — especially those in flood-prone neighbourhoods, older Katy stock, and properties with detached garages — give rodents more entry points than most people realise. Once they are inside, they chew through wiring, contaminate what they touch, and multiply fast.
Exclusion is the whole job
Trapping without sealing gets you temporary relief. Our rodent service is built around exclusion: we identify every entry point with the house, repair or screen it, remove attractants inside, and then treat the remaining activity. Most of our rodent customers come back for quarterly maintenance because the exclusion work is permanent but new entry points open with seasonal movement and construction.
Rats vs mice — different problems
House mice are small, nest in walls and cabinets, and breed year-round. Roof rats are larger, prefer the upper levels and attics, and are bold enough to chew through soffits and attic vents to get in. Norway rats live in burrows and under concrete slabs. A treatment aimed at the wrong species looks like failure because you are trapping the wrong population.
Why Houston homes attract rodents
Three things draw rodents to a Houston property: accessible food, accessible water, and accessible shelter. Standing water against the foundation, pet food left out overnight, and a gap in the soffit are the three we find most. Fixing those three things cuts rodent pressure at the source, and it also cuts your mosquito pressure, because the same standing water that breeds mosquitoes is what they are after.
Rodent Control — common questions
Droppings are the tell. Mouse droppings are rice-grain sized, about 1/8 inch. Rat droppings are larger, up to a half inch, and you often find them along beams in the attic and near entry points. Greasy rub marks along walls at 3-4 inches high point to mice; higher, along the eaves and roofline, points to roof rats.
We handle the exclusion work as part of the service — screening vents, sealing gaps, and minor repair. Larger structural repairs like re-roofing, soffit replacement or slab work are outside pest control, and we will tell you honestly what we can and cannot close.
Yes. We use rodenticide only where no alternative is effective, always in tamper-resistant stations, and we tell you exactly where every station was placed. Where trapping will do the job, we trap instead.
The exclusion itself lasts as long as the materials hold — typically years. After that, quarterly maintenance keeps populations suppressed and catches new entry points before they become a colony.
